Citizenship ceremony
Every year, the City of Stockholm has been welcoming new Swedish citizens living in the City of Stockholm to a ceremony in Stockholm City Hall.
The citizenship ceremony takes place on the 6th of June, Sweden’s National Day. Since 2015, it is required by law that all Swedish municipalities organise a citizenship ceremony for their residents. The citizenship ceremony in the Golden Hall, has become a much-appreciated tradition that includes speeches, singing and music.
Invitations to the ceremony
Anyone who becomes a Swedish citizen is invited to the ceremony on the 6th of June of the following year. The City receives information from the Swedish Tax Agency’s population register. The invitation is sent by post and is personal.
The City Executive Office is responsible for organising the City of Stockholm’s citizenship ceremony every year.
