Social services
People who need support during specific period of time in life, can receive help from our social services.
Social services is a collective term for a number of different municipal initiatives, such as support for people with mental disabilities, financial support or support with housing.
Support is designed individually
Social services and social care is one of the City’s broadest areas, with one common denominator: support for people of different ages and with widely varying needs. There are therefore different initiatives that can be used separately or together.
There are different types of support available from the City of Stockholm.
Information about social services and the Swedish Care of Young Persons Act (LVU) in different languages
The National Board of Health and Welfare’s website has a collection of material translated into several languages aimed at adults and young people who come into contact with social services. Swedish social services work to ensure that children’s rights and needs are met.
The vast majority of the help offered is voluntary and is carried out in collaboration with children and parents. The starting point for social services is to support the family.

Organisation
The City of Stockholm’s social services are divided between the Social Services Department and the 13 city district departments. The City also purchases various services from private providers.
Ombudsman for the Disabled
Stockholm must be accessible for everyone, regardless of functional ability. The City’s councils, committees and executive boards have a joint responsibility to strive for this. The Ombudsman for the Disabled supports this work.
SHIS Bostäder (Stiftelsen Hotellhem i Stockholm)
SHIS Bostäder is the City’s social housing resource and is tasked by the City Council to provide housing for people who do not have access to the regular housing market.
