City District Department of Hässelby-Vällingby

The City District Department of Hässelby-Vällingby is responsible for a large proportion of municipal services within the city district area of Hässelby-Vällingby.

The City District Department is responsible for

  • municipal preschool
  • elderly care services
  • support and services for people with disabilities
  • work on the urban environment (e.g. maintenance of parks)
  • social psychiatry
  • individual and family care
  • guidance for consumers
  • leisure and cultural activities.

The elected representatives on the City District Council decide how these municipal operations are to be carried out in the area. The City District Department must then implement the Council’s decisions.

The city district area comprises the following city districts:

  • Hässelby Gård
  • Hässelby Strand
  • Hässelby Villastad
  • Grimsta
  • Kälvesta
  • Nälsta
  • Råcksta
  • Vinsta
  • Vällingby.

Organisation

The work of the City District Department is led by Gunilla Ekstrand, Director of the City District of Hässelby-Vällingby. The Department consists of five divisions with responsibility for operations within each area.

The Operational Support and Urban Environment Division consists of four units:

  • Finance and Procurement Unit: Responsible for accounting and financial statements, as well as providing support to operations with budgeting and forecasting work.
  • The Security and Civil Society Collaboration Unit: Focuses on collaboration within the administration and with external actors such as the police, associations, businesses, and property owners to create good conditions for residents and visitors. The unit also provides support in the areas of security, safety, integration, business, association life, culture, and employment.
  • City Environment and Sustainability: The unit manages and develops the neighbourhood's parks and natural areas, as well as responds to inquiries regarding land leases, building permits, and detailed plans. The unit also supports the administration's operations in working towards the city's sustainability goals based on the environmental program.
  • The Facility Unit: Supports operations with premises and is responsible for lease agreements, development, and decommissioning of facilities.

The Preschool Division is responsible for municipal preschools, open preschools and introductory preschools. The preschool comprises six areas with approximately 2,500 children enrolled.

The Division also handles the processing of childcare during inconvenient working hours and initiatives for children in need of special support within municipal preschools.

The department investigates and makes decisions on support and initiatives for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities and people over the age of 65 who need elderly care.

The initiatives offered include, among other things

  • open meeting places
  • support to be able to attend leisure and cultural activities
  • home care services
  • personal assistance
  • relief for those who are caring for loved ones
  • employment and daily activities
  • short-term stay
  • forms of accommodation for children, adults and the elderly.

This Division investigates the needs of children and young people for support and protection, and offers preventive initiatives for children and families. The Division works in areas including parenting advice, family law, field assistants, youth recreation centres and park playgrounds.

This Division also investigates the needs of adults for support, care and treatment. The Division works in areas including income support, substance abuse problems, domestic violence and citizen services.

The HR Division is responsible for creating and developing strategies and processes within the HR area.
