Credit rating

Credit rating is an assessment of the creditworthiness of the city. A high and stable credit rating is an important factor for the city to access cost efficient funding on both the Swedish and international capital markets.

The City of Stockholm has held the highest possible long-term and short-term credit ratings, AAA/A-1+ and K-1 respectively, from the international rating agency Standard & Poor’s since 2007.

The credit rating is assessed every 6 months and is confirmed as of May 2025.

Standard & Poor’s confirms the City of Stockholm’s long-term and short-term credit ratings and maintains a stable outlook The ratings remain unchanged at AAA/A-1+ and K-1. 

The research update published on 8 November 2024 is based on expectations of continued robust performance driven by effective cost control and increasing tax revenues.

S&P expect the debt to gradually increase due to large investments in infrastructure projects, for example water management. The city is expected to manage the debt increase though disinvestments in non-strategic assets and prioritizing within the project portfolio. The good quality of the financial management and ample liquidity accessibility for the city motivate the highest possible credit rating.
