Distribution of taxes
Every autumn, the City of Stockholm decides how the municipal tax should be distributed among a number of areas – for example schools, elderly care, culture, infrastructure, sports and environmental projects.
The budget for 2024 has three operational goals:
- A socially coherent Stockholm with a strong and equal welfare system.
- A green and fossil free city – leading the way with a fair climate transition.
- A city with a solid and sustainable economy, where education, jobs, and housing is available for all.

Municipal tax
Residents of the city of Stockholm are required to pay municipal tax decided by the City Council.
